About Us...
We are students at the American International School of Riyadh. Our group consists of three members who are Tia Nasser, Maryam Ashraf, and Seba Omran. The main reason we chose this topic was because we realized that people were unaware of the consequences of the consumption of processed foods. As we address this issue, we hope that people become more aware of the problem and at least some people would start to change the way they eat or be more careful with what foods they consume.
An Introduction to Processed Foods:
Processed Foods Aren’t as “Great” as they Seem
Food processing is the transformation of raw ingredients, physically or chemically, into other different forms of food. Food companies combine raw food ingredients to produce marketable food products that can easily be prepared and served. The main reason food processing really exists is to make food tasty and to have a longer shelf-life. However, there are a lot of negative side effects too. Diseases such as obesity and various types of cancer, are caused due to the consumption of processed foods. People should ask themselves before they eat any kind of processed food “What are we consuming?”, “Is it good for me?”, “Does it harm me?”.
